Sparkle Auditions now open - for talented learners
Showcase your talent at the 2009 LSIS STAR Awards. We are searching for a variety of talented learners to provide showcases for the dazzling national STAR Awards ceremony on 26 November 2009. Whatever their talent or skill, anyone in the further education, learning and skills sector can enter their showcase. If you know learners with a dynamic skill or a sparkling performance, whether it is technical, musical, sporting, practical or artistic, we want to hear from them.

2008 winner’s case study - Developing staff to improve teaching and learning
The senior teacher team from North East Worcestershire College won a prestigious Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) STAR Award in 2008 in the workforce development category. The team was nominated by colleague, Shelley Phelan, for its dedication, enthusiasm and active promotion of workforce development in the organisation.

Nominators' prize draw
This year everybody who nominates will not only get the chance to have their unsung hero recognised, but will also automatically be entered into a free monthly prize draw to win one of four technology based prizes. March’s prize draw winner was Lesley Mcloughlin from Scope, Chester Skills Development Centre, who won a Compaq laptop. Lesley is going to use the laptop to develop resourses and diverse activities that will benefit the adults that attend the centre. She has also recently enrolled onto an assessors course, which she can now do more conveniently at home.

STAR Awards event kit now available
We have launched a new event kit to help you to promote the STAR Awards and encourage nominations for the unsung heroes of the further education, learning and skills sector.
In addition to the materials found in the nomination packs, the event kit contains learner nomination forms, calendars, jelly beans, balloons, and further incentives to encourage nominations.

STAR roadshows - would you like us to visit you?

The STAR Awards team is visiting providers nationwide to create a greater awareness of the awards among students and staff. Armed with a stand full of information and goodies, the STAR team wants to hear about the unsung heroes in your organisation. Tips on writing a winning nomination

Feedback from the judges on what they felt made a winning nomination stand out from the rest is available to view on the STAR Awards website. Examples of good and poor nominations are also now available to download.

New website launched soon

A brand new STAR Awards website is due to be launched soon. The new site will have added functionality and interactivity to keep you up to date with all aspects of the STAR Awards. New features include a video library displaying both regional and national event video footage, a comments section where good luck messages can be uploaded to support STAR Award nominees and much more.
