 Nominations for the 2009 STAR Awards are now open
Do you work with one of the unsung heroes of the further education, learning and skills sector? Then nominate them now for an LSIS STAR Award.
So far over 11,500 people working in FE have been recognised for their commitment, dedication and successful approaches. Since the launch of the awards in 2003, more than £150,000 in professional and personal development funding and prize money has been given to winners and highly commended nominees. With a wide range of categories for individuals and teams, the STAR Awards cover all aspects of FE provision and are open to those in teaching and non-teaching roles.

 STAR Award winner visits No.10
One lucky 2008 LSIS STAR Award winner was selected by Ministers of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills to attend Number 10 Downing Street on 13 January 2009.
Lynn Reddick of North East Surrey College of Technology (NESCOT) won her STAR Award last year in the ‘response to learners’ needs’ category for her commitment and dedication to her learners. The event to which Lynn was invited was the launch of the Government White Paper on New Opportunities, and the chosen invitees were mostly award winners from the public sector representing various professions.

 2008 STARlight fund applications
21 STAR Award winners and highly commended nominees from 2008 have been awarded £1,500 each from the STARlight fund for personal and/or professional development activities. Examples of activity include a study trip to investigate offender learning in the USA, a vegan cookery course to help a college better cater for different dietary needs and exploration of glaciers in the Chamonix Valley to research teaching resources for physical geography.
